The first stage of this competition is a one-day carnival held on Wednesday 4 March at Willetton Stadium. This carnival is a qualifying tournament, whereby successful teams are invited into the knockout stage of competition in Terms One and Two. This is the inaugural year of the competition, which is open to all ACC member schools, and is the premier basketball championship for both senior students (Years 10-12) and now junior students (Years 7-9) in W.A.

On the morning of the carnival, students must arrive by 8.15am and meet in the gymnasium ready to collect equipment before travelling by bus to the stadium. Students will then compete against the other five schools in a round-robin tournament, with the winner of the group moving into the ACC knockout bracket to determine the champions.  Students should return to the College by 2.00-2.30pm, depending on presentations.

On their return, the boys will be allowed to return to class, however the girls will stay in the gym ready for their afterschool SASJ fixture away at Lumen Christi that afternoon. This is to avoid disruption to classes when they leave again at 3.00pm to board the bus. It will be a long day for the girls, however we are at the mercy of the draw and given the opposing school will also have students in the championship, albeit in a different pool, we are hesitant to try and reschedule the afterschool match.

Students will need to bring the following:

  • Full UFCC PE uniform, including school tracksuit and hat and plain white socks only.
  • All food and drink requirements for the day (we do not know if any canteen facilities are available).
  • Basketball or court shoes.
  • A small sweat towel and a water bottle.
  • Their A-Game!
